The Land of Aleria
Aleria is a vast land full of magic, adventure, villains, and heroes. Similar to many typical Magical High Fantasy worlds there are Elves, Dwarves, Orcs, Humans, Dragons, and so much more. The map above is only the mainland, but there is much more of the world to be discovered. You can check out here for a more detailed map of Aleria.
THE BACKSTORY
60 years ago a great war broke out in Aleria as the Human Kingdoms of Erafast and Arexia joined together to destroy the Elves. Unbeknownst to the world, the human Kings had been corrupted by a dark magician. The war engulfed the entire land and lasted for ten long years. City after City of the Elven people fell the might of the Human Kingdoms. Finally, there was only one great Elven city left, Lithilian. This would be the Elves last stand and the final battle of the great war. During the climactic battle, the Human King of Arexia wielded a weapon of dark magic. However, the King had been deceived by the dark magician who had given the weapon to the king. Instead of giving the king great power, the weapon opened a doorway into the shadow realm. Creatures of unspeakable evil began pouring through the doorway devouring everyone in its way. The War between the peoples of Aleria was over in an instant. Fear gripped the hearts of every soldier and all knew that no one would see the break of dawn if they stood divided. The people united in the hopes of defeating the King and pushing the darkness back into the Shadow Realm. Both armies fought through the night to defeat the enemy and close the rift. The war was over, and the Battle of the Violet Night was finished. There has been peace in Aleria for almost 50 years.
The world slowly rebuilt, and most of the land was healed. However, some were not so lucky. Whatever had been unleashed that day caused what came to be known as the Violet fever. A terrible sickness that would either drive you mad or painfully kill you. People's skin would turn most often grey, and their eyes were violet. However, the Violet Fever did not affect everyone equally. The Orcs escaped untouched, and no Orcs to this day have yet to be infected by Violet Fever. The humans were affected the worst by far, the fever killed them the quickest. The Elves who contracted the fever were entirely changed. They were transformed, their skin darker, eyes violet, but they did not die. This was the birth of the dark elves. A complete cure was never discovered, and slowly it seemed to vanish from the world. Many wondered if the fever was not simply laying dormant. No one was entirely sure.
The Land around the Elven city was also destroyed during the battle. It was left charred and blackened, a desolate wasteland known as the Black Fields. You may hear of many a tale in taverns from those travelers who say they have crossed those forsaken lands called the Black Fields. It is a place of unspeakable darkness where crazed creatures still roam about, and where sound seems to die.
There are still those who remember the war, even who fought in the war, maybe even the rare few that recovered from the violet fever, and most will gladly share their story. However, many folks have been keeping their stories to themselves in recent days. Times seem to be changing. Rumors of evil creatures and dark omens have been increasing, and it has led many to wonder if darkness has been slumbering until now.
